The Mind Meeting Seminar Series is back! On Tuesday 17 December 2026, 3.00 pm CET, Dr. Nadine Gogolla, Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry (Munich), will give a hybrid talk entitled “Disentangling the Neural Basis of Emotion in mice“.
The talk, organized by the Doeller Lab and Bicanski Lab, will take place on site (in the Wilhelm Wundt Room at the MPI CBS) and virtually via Zoom. Please join us and subscribe to the Mind Meeting Mailing List on our homepage!
Abstract
In my talk, I will discuss recent findings from my lab centered on a fundamental challenge in affective neuroscience: how can we understand the neural mechanisms of emotion and make internal affective states experimentally tractable in animal models? I will describe our work developing sensitive behavioral and physiological readouts of emotional states in mice, and combining these with neural recordings and causal circuit manipulation across multiple scales. I will further discuss how interactions between the brain and body contribute to the generation and regulation of emotional states. Together, these studies aim to provide a mechanistic, biology-based framework for understanding emotion by linking internal states to neural circuits and bodily processes. A longer-term goal is to establish how these principles translate across species, ultimately connecting mechanistic insights from animal models to emotion in healthy humans and, potentially, to psychiatric disease.
